Does our jewellery tarnish?
The truth is, that all jewellery can tarnish, some slower and some faster than others, depending on what metals are the jewellery made from, and how you wear it - metals such as silver, copper, or nickel will tarnish when elements within the metal oxidize when exposed to air, sweat, or other chemicals (like hand sanitisers, cleaners, etc.).
Though, 3 types of metals will not tarnish:
Platinum - doesn’t react with water or oxygen in the air, tarnish, get oxidized or fade. But platinum is rare and very pricy.
Pure Gold - is typically unreactive and will not tarnish.
Stainless Steel - takes a long time and some harsh conditions for it to tarnish.
